Richard Forbes-Hamilton

Our Streetview series presents short pop-up showcases of work by artists from our community. Displayed in the gallery windows at YAS Persistence Works, Streetview offers concise and impactful selections of work which are available to view 24 hours a day.

Richard Forbes-Hamilton is an interdisciplinary artist based at YAS Exchange Place. Richard works across paint, experimental animation, sound, photography and textiles. His work frequently focuses on a single idea or motif, which is then repeatedly explored by reapproaching the same subject matter with different materials.

The two paintings on display reference Sheffield’s rivers. They come from the artist’s direct experience of these places and observational drawings, as well as from stories, history, myths, and legends connected to the rivers. They are part of Richard’s ongoing Shimmer series, which takes inspiration from bodies of water that flow through or delineate the boundaries of specific places.
