007: Lucie Kordačová
Our artist-in-residence for Apr/May 2026 was Lucie Kordačová, a Czech artist working across sculpture, moving image, performance, and textiles.
Lucie's recent work responds to the living world and how natural landscapes are transformed by human intervention. She is interested in Slavic folk rituals and myth-making in relation to the land and its protection. Her work often fuses traditional techniques, materials and ideas with more experimental ones.
For Testing Ground, Lucie made a new body of work across sculpture, sound and performance, thinking specifically about how they could co-exist and inform one another. She also thought about space and place, responding to the studio’s architecture and surrounding area, and experimenting with materials that are symbolic of Sheffield and the surrounding landscape (such as steel, bog cotton, and wheat).
